    • 2. False Starts: A crew is given a warning or penalty if any rower moves their boat forward across the starting line before the official start signal is given.
    • 3. Equipment Compliance: All boats, oars, and equipment must meet strict weight, length, and safety standards set by the governing body (such as FISA or USRowing) before being allowed on the water.
    • 4. PFDs and Safety Gear: Approved personal flotation devices (life jackets) must be carried or worn according to specific weather conditions, local waterways rules, and governing body mandates.
    • 5. Traffic Patterns on Practice/Warm-up Courses: Crews must strictly follow established on-the-water traffic patterns (such as keeping to the right or designated passing lanes) during practice and pre-race warm-ups to prevent collisions.
    • 6. Overtaking and Yielding: When a trailing boat is overtaking another, the leading boat must yield space if necessary, but the overtaking boat is responsible for avoiding a collision.
    • 7. Weight Categories and Weigh-ins: Lightweight crews must meet strict weight limits, verified through official weigh-ins conducted prior to the race within a specified time window.
    • 8. Uniformity and Dress Code: All members of a crew (excluding the coxswain in some events) must wear identical uniforms, matching colors, and proper club or team branding during championship regattas.
    • 9. The Finish Order: A race is officially finished when the bow ball of the shell crosses the finish line. The order of finish determines advancement and medal standings.
    • 10. Protests and Appeals: If a rule violation or interference occurs during a race, the crew's coach or captain must formally lodge a protest with the race officials within a strict time limit following the race conclusion.
